Project Leaders - Native Plant Corps, AZ & NM |

SCA is currently hiring 4-6 experienced field leaders to supervise 4 young adults doing invasive plant management work. Collaborate with the USFWS staff to set and achieve targets for invasive weed control and public education. Projects will mostly target tamarisk using mechanical and chemical control methods with spot control of other invasive populations. Positions will be located in National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) throughout Arizona and New Mexico. Exact refuge locations to be determined by May 5.
Dates: Start – July 21 2008 End – December, 23, 2008
Training Provided: Project Leaders will be trained in SCA field protocols and supported in the field by Seattle program staff. Wilderness First Aid, S212 Power Saw, Leave no Trace and Herbicide License training may also be required and provided.
Housing, Transportation, Other: Housing is not provided, but may be subsidized; transportation for work activities provided. Position involves long hours in the field working in all weather conditions and in rough terrain. Seasonal staff benefits are available.
Qualifications:

Minimum age requirement 21 years old

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experienced
-
Minimum of 320 hours of field leadership experience
-
Background in botany, invasive plant management or related fields
-
Working knowledge of Geo-spatial data collection and GIS

Ability to use power saws and hike with heavy loads on varied terrain

Strong computer and communication skills

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

Valid driver’s license and driving record within SCA guidelines

Ability to pass SCA background check
Salary: Ranges between $26,000-$28,000/year (prorated) with seasonal benefits.
