Project Leader - Urban Forestry Corps, Seattle WA Print
invasives.jpgThe Student Conservation Association (SCA) is currently hiring one project leader to supervise six team members.  SCA shares with its partners a vision of diverse, invasive-free, sustainable urban forested commons that are supported by an aware and engaged community that works together to protect this resource.  To work toward this vision, we plan to field a team of six students, ages 15-19, to participate in an eight-week paid summer employment program. The project will provide valuable restoration services to Seattle’s urban forests and provide intensive training in forestry and park management for the high school participants.  Work in partnership with the University of Washington Botanic Gardens, Cascade Land Conservancy and Forest Stewards to plan, implement and evaluate this work skills training program.

Dates:  Start – June 16, 2008    End – September 6, 2008

Position Type:  Field-based botany, forestry, horticulture, leadership.

Training Provided:  Project Leaders will be trained in SCA field protocols and supported in the field by Seattle program staff.
Housing, Transportation, Other:  Housing is not provided; transportation for work activities provided; monthly bus pass provided. Position involves long hours in the field working in all weather conditions and in rough terrain.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum age requirement 21 years old
  • Field work/outdoor experience
  • Minimum of 1 year leadership experience
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification
  • Working knowledge of Puget Sound native and invasive plants
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record within SCA guidelines
  • Ability to pass SCA background check
   
Salary: Ranges between $26,000-$28,000/year (prorated) with seasonal benefits.
