Project Leader - Restoration Corps - El Centro, CA
|

Work in partnership with the El Centro California Bureau of Land Management field office in the Yuha Desert to restore habitat damaged by off highway vehicle use. The team will utilize a variety of techniques in an effort to repair damaged areas, camouflage existing illegal routes and to limit access to sensitive areas.
The team may also interface with the public to provide educational information and to enhance user experience. The team will consist of 6 members and 1 Project Leader. Project is 8 months beginning Oct 2, 08

Position Type: Supervising/Coordinating Volunteers; Field staff
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of restoration crew management
- Assist with the design, implementation and evaluation of the project
- Provide a positive, safe and meaningful work environment for six SCA team members for eight months
- Mentor members in professional and leadership development
- Provide resources for environmental education
- Coordinate with agency and SCA staff to orient and train members in all aspects of the project
- Assure project compliance with all SCA operational standards
- Collect data and complete a final program report and evaluation
Training Provided: Project Leaders will come together with other SCA staff for two-week training on technical field skills and SCA processes. Project Leaders will also conduct training for their members in early October.
Housing, Transportation, Other: Housing may be provided; transportation for all work activities provided; personal transportation recommended. Position involves long hours in the field working in all weather conditions and in rough terrain.
Qualifications - Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experienced
- Minimum age requirement 21 years old
- Field work/outdoor experience
- Minimum of 2 years leadership experience
- Strong computer skills
- Working knowledge of GPS/GIS
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail
- Wilderness First Responder/Aid and CPR certification
- Ability to hike on varied terrain up to 4 miles/day
- Valid driver’s license and driving record within SCA guidelines
- Ability to pass SCA background check
Qualifications - Preferred:
- Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team
- Environmental education, outdoor recreation, teaching or related experience
- Public speaking and community outreach experience
- Knowledge of restoration and/or restoration ecology
- Minimum impact camping skills
- Enthusiasm for the outdoors and a sense of adventure
- Budget management experience and a sense of adventure
Salary: Ranges between $26,000-$28,000/year with benefits.
