Rock Creek Park

PDF Print E-mail
This 1700+ acre park located in Northwest D.C. is one of America’s oldest designated national parks. Miles of jogging, biking, and equestrian trails allow District residents a thickly-wooded getaway within the city, and are regularly maintained by volunteers like SCA’s Conservation Leadership Corps. An invaluable source of outdoor recreational opportunity, Rock Creek is a park worth protecting!

What: Earth Day 2008 Service Day in Washington DC
When: April 25, 2008, 12:30 – 4:00
Where: Rock Creek Park

Details:
Crews will work to remove invasive plant species from several areas. These areas include near the cemetery in Montrose Park, the Forsythia Garden in Dumbarton Oaks, and a lightly wooded area across the creek and further west of the Forsythia Garden. There are a variety of invasive species we will be removing, including garlic mustard, porcelain berry, exotic bush honeysuckle, wine berry, Japanese knotweed, autumn olive, multiflora rose, English ivy, and mile-a-minute. Most of these plants will be pulled out by the roots, while others (like English ivy) will be severed with hand saws.
