George Washington Memorial Parkway

The “Road to Adventure,” the George Washington Memorial Parkway, runs along the banks of the Potomac River in Virginia, just across the water from Washington.

Running alongside it are numerous popular trails, like the Potomac Heritage Trail and the Mount Vernon Trail, which SCA crews have been helping to maintain for years.

What: Earth Day 2008 Service Day
When: April 25, 2008, 12:30 – 4:00
Where: George Washington Memorial Parkway

Details:
We’ll be working to improve hiking trails by limiting water erosion with rehabilitated water bars and check dams. Most of this work will occur at trail junctions, where heavy use has widened the trails and made the existing water bars less effective. Crews will work to narrow trails a little bit, improve angles on existing water bars, and install new water bars where necessary.

Registration for this event is closed.
