SCA/Mazda Conservation in Action Contest

In honor of SCA Founder Elizabeth Cushman Titus Putnam and SCA’s 50th Anniversary, SCA is pleased to announce our SCA/Mazda Conservation in Action Multi-Media Contest. SCA recognizes the power of a good idea, and if there was ever a time when good ideas are needed, it’s now. So we're asking you for your ideas and solutions. Fifty years ago, as a college senior, Liz had an idea and a plan to save our National Parks. What began as her senior thesis has grown into the Student Conservation Association, where 3,000 high school and college-age students volunteer each year to protect our public lands and restore our environment.  

Call for Entries
SCA recognizes the power of a good idea, and if there was ever a time when good ideas are needed, it’s now. And so we are asking you for your ideas and solutions.  

Show us your action-oriented, practical solutions to an environmental challenge and we’ll help you turn those ideas into action. We’ll also give a grand prize of a Mazda3, $10,000 in awards, and bring the contest winners to the April 2008 EarthVision Summit in Washington, DC.

We know that ideas come in all shapes and sizes, and so we welcome you to submit your idea in whatever format you think best captures its power and potential.  

Another senior thesis would be perfect. A PowerPoint presentation? That works. Al Gore just won an Academy Award with one. Film and video?  Absolutely! And, BTW, you song writers out there, we want to hear from you, too.

Guidelines
We wish to engage the intelligence, the passion, and the leadership of America’s young people to help restore and protect our physical world.

  • We seek ideas. Submissions can offer an innovative vision, outline a creative new program, or propose a new twist on an old model of conservation.
  • We are looking for practical solutions.  We will give preference to submissions that demonstrate how you would implement your idea and what its impact may be.  
  • We especially seek projects that can help build the next generation of conservation leaders by engaging young people in protecting and conserving our natural world.
  • We encourage collaboration and welcome group projects.
The review committee and the judges will give extra points to submissions that are beautifully presented and well thought out.
Participants must be between the ages of 15 – 19 or 20 – 25 at the time the contest launches.   
Participants must be U.S. citizens.
Deadline for postmark (or electronic submission) of full submission is December 1, 2007.
