Pittsburgh Gathering

• Why: Celebrate SCA’s 50th Anniversary

SCA celebrated its 50th Anniversary in Pittsburgh! 30 alumni, members and friends joined together in Grandview Park for a half-day of service and commemoration. Alumni from the Greater Pittsburgh region united with SCA staff and friends to share the SCA connection and the best views of Pittsburgh.


Riverview Park Project
Our first alumni gathering was August 22nd. It was a great day for an alumni and member work project in Riverview Park. We had six crews working with us, with approximately 6 people and a crew leader to each. Participants who came back to volunteer for the day included Wanda Murphy, Shanequa Hickman, Chad Loftion, KeJoyce Brown, Jajuana Murphy, Avery Hill, Darcie Mather, and Martaz Johnson.



We worked on drainage and erosion problems in Riverview Park. The crews were great and the volunteers were really motivated. The participants were shocked and impressed that others would actually volunteer to do this work. They were pleased to know that their hard work was valued and that it might get them the opportunity to lead a group of volunteers at the September 15th event.



It was really positive to have the volunteers work with the current participants because they motivated each other. Having the opportunity to talk to those who were enjoying themselves was great.

Huge thanks to Malik, Josh, and Martaz. They were great at directing the crews and they were work horses.
